This is nothing new.The Colombian cocaine cartels agreed to settle that countries national debt if they would tell the United States to stay out of Colombian affairs.Offers were made to sell the yearly Afghan poppy harvest to the US for a reasonable price. The drug warriors have no interest in doing anything that would at the very least, reduce the supply of drugs on the world market. They have any number of excuses for this but what it all comes down to is,they have no interest in ending the war.Too much money.Too many jobs.Too many economies being propped up by illicit drug sales. The DEA itself is a huge Juggernaut that is largely indebted to the drug war for the vast majority of it’s budget.Drugs financed Vietnam and were the cause celeb re in the Contra scandal.Anyone that’s naive enough to think Afghanistan isn’t being financed by opium,on both (3)sides,is dreaming.
